Rehearsal Etiquette & Expectations

To help us create a respectful, collaborative, and supportive environment, please keep the following in mind:

  • Arrive on time and ready to begin, out of consideration for everyone’s time and the rehearsal schedule. This also helps prevent injuries by ensuring you are properly warmed up.

  • Stay focused during rehearsals. We’re all here to enjoy the process and work together as a community, so of course there’s space for connection and a bit of fun. That said, when the choreographer is speaking or we’re working through something important, please try to hold off on side chats. It helps everyone stay in the zone and keeps things moving smoothly.

  • If you ever feel underrepresented or unsure about your role, you’re encouraged to speak with the choreographer. Open and respectful communication is always welcome. Being placed at the front or given a featured part is based on various factors—not just skill. These may include stage dynamics, height, confidence with movement, or how someone fits into a particular choreographic moment. We do our best to offer each dancer a meaningful moment in the performance, but it can be challenging to ensure this feels completely fair to everyone. Please know that neither Director Amy nor the choreographers intend to show favouritism—there are many dancers to support, and managing everything can sometimes be complex.

  • If a decision feels disappointing or unclear, please remember that choices are made in service of the overall performance, not as personal judgements.

  • Respect the choreographer’s vision, even if it differs from your personal preferences or past experiences.

  • Be open to feedback. Notes are a natural part of the creative process and are intended to help us grow together—not as personal criticism.

  • Support your fellow dancers. A strong dance community relies on encouragement, collaboration, and shared development.

  • Ask questions at appropriate times, ideally during breaks or designated Q&A moments, to avoid disrupting the flow of rehearsal.

  • If you would like clarification, you are encouraged to speak respectfully with the choreographer after rehearsal. Open, honest conversations are always welcome.
